While this mission will not include a lunar landing, it will pave the way for the Artemis III mission (scheduled for 2027), which aims to put humans back on the lunar surface after decades. The launch will take place from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, the historic site of the Apollo missions. If the primary launch date is missed, backup dates have been set for February 7, 8, 10, or 11.

The Artemis II mission will utilize the Orion spacecraft, carried by NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. After launch, the spacecraft will first orbit the Earth to test life-support systems. It will then trajectory toward the Moon, using lunar gravity to slingshot back to Earth.

After a 53-year long wait, this mission is set to write a new chapter in human history. Scientists and astronauts hope this journey will open new frontiers for the exploration of the Moon and deep space.
