The group was apprehended on Friday morning, May 8, 2026, while they were moving suspiciously in the border area. According to BGB and police sources, the detainees consist of six men, three women, and one child, all of whom are residents of Sunamganj and Netrokona districts. Investigations revealed that these individuals had entered India illegally at various times in search of work or other reasons. They were recently detained by the BSF within Indian territory and subsequently pushed back across the border into Bangladesh.

A patrol team from the 46th Battalion of the BGB noticed the group's presence and took them to a nearby camp for primary interrogation. Upon verifying their identities as Bangladeshi citizens, the BGB handed them over to the Kulaura Police Station for further legal processing. Farhad Matabbar, a Sub-Inspector (SI) at Kulaura Police Station, confirmed that the families of the detainees were notified of the situation. By the afternoon of the same day, relatives arrived at the station, and the authorities handed over the ten individuals to their respective family members. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of illegal border crossings and the subsequent repatriation procedures handled by border security forces on both sides of the international boundary.
