The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed these figures in a press release on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 2026. According to the official bulletin, among the seven deceased, two were laboratory-confirmed cases of measles, while the remaining five passed away showing primary symptoms of the disease. This latest surge, which began on March 15, has now claimed a total of 56 confirmed lives, with an additional 268 deaths suspected to be caused by measles-related complications during the same period.

Data from the DGHS further reveals that the number of patients admitted to hospitals nationwide with suspected measles has reached 30,885. Out of these, 27,223 patients have returned home after receiving proper medical treatment. Given the gravity of the situation, the health department is emphasizing the need to strengthen surveillance and intensify vaccination drives in the most affected areas. Medical experts urge parents to ensure their children are vaccinated, as the rising number of hospitalizations continues to put pressure on the healthcare system.
