Police Constable Loses Both Legs While Alighting from Moving Train
The victim, identified as Emran Mia, currently serving in Bagerhat, met with the accident on Monday morning, April 6, 2026. According to local police reports, the constable was attempting to disembark from the "Simanta Express" while the train was still in motion, resulting in a devastating loss of balance that pulled him under the carriage.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station, Abdul Karim, confirmed that Emran Mia was traveling from Khulna to visit his in-laws' house in Atrai. As the train approached the Atrai station and began to slow down, the constable attempted to jump onto the platform. However, he lost his footing and fell directly into the path of the train's wheels, which severed both of his legs from the knee down. Witnesses at the scene immediately rushed to his aid, signaling for emergency medical assistance as the station fell into a state of shock.
Local residents and railway staff quickly transported the critically injured constable to the Atrai Upazila Health Complex for emergency stabilization. Given the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for advanced surgical intervention and specialized care, accompanied by his in-laws. While the constable’s permanent home address has not yet been formally established by the local precinct, his family in Atrai is currently coordinating with hospital authorities. Railway police have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident to determine if there were any external factors contributing to the fall.
