The case was lodged on Monday afternoon, March 30, 2026, at the Sirajganj Sadar Cognizance Court by Advocate Nazmul Islam. The legal action follows controversial remarks made by Hamza against the Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

The conflict traces back to a speech delivered by Minister Tuku during an award ceremony for heroic Freedom Fighters on March 26. According to the case statement, Mufti Amir Hamza subsequently launched a personal attack against the Minister, labeling him a "thoroughbred atheist" (আপাদমস্তক নাস্তিক) and using "indecent and derogatory" language.

The Allegation: The plaintiff argues that these remarks have severely tarnished the religious and social image of the Minister, who is described as a "respectable Muslim" with a long history of contributing to the development of religious institutions.

Public Reaction: The lawsuit claims that Hamza’s comments have deeply hurt the sentiments of people in Sirajganj and across the country, inciting widespread public anger.

The presiding judge, Suman Kumar Karmakar, took the plaintiff's application and supporting evidence into official record. After a preliminary hearing, the court has kept the order pending for further review.

This legal battle comes at a time of heightened political tension in Bangladesh. Analysts note that the exchange highlights a deepening rift between the current administration’s secular development narrative and the rhetoric of religious political figures. If the court moves forward with the case, it could lead to significant legal challenges for the Kushtia MP, potentially affecting his parliamentary standing.
