On Monday (March 9), AHM Ziaur Rahman Khan, a resident of the Ujir Dharnibari area, sent the complaint via post to Police Headquarters, with copies forwarded to the DIG of Rangpur Range and the SP of Gaibandha.

According to the complaint, Nurun Nahar, a caretaker at Ziaur Rahman’s house, was physically assaulted and molested on February 17. When she approached the police station on February 19 to file a case, the OC reportedly declined and advised a local settlement instead. Distressed by the lack of justice, the victim attempted suicide by consuming poison on February 25 and later held a press conference on February 26.

The complainant stated that while the police are legally bound to investigate complaints, their inaction has forced him to seek intervention from higher authorities. In his defense, OC Abdullah Al Mamun claimed that since the matter was settled through the local Union Parishad Chairman, a formal case was unnecessary. However, the complainant alleged that signatures were taken on blank papers under the guise of a settlement, but no actual justice was served.
