The blast occurred on Wednesday night at 'N Alam Filling Station,' owned by local Awami League leader Nurul Alam. The fire ravaged over 50 nearby houses and shops, while 15 vehicles parked in a neighboring garage were reduced to ashes.

According to Fire Service officials, the station was operating without any government permits or safety protocols during gas unloading. It took a coordinated seven-hour effort by 10 units from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Fire Service to bring the inferno under control.

Six victims have been shifted to Chittagong and Dhaka for advanced treatment. A three-member probe committee has been formed by the district administration. Locals alleged that Nurul Alam, a close associate of former MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal, used political influence to construct the hazardous station illegally in a residential gateway.
