Despite there being five vacant positions, not a single applicant could pass the merit test, primarily because they failed to write the National Anthem correctly—a core requirement set by the recruitment board to assess basic literacy and patriotism.

The examination was held on Wednesday morning, February 25, 2026, at the Upazila Parishad auditorium for vacancies in the Tirnaihat, Tetulia, Shalbahan, and Debnagar unions. Following a preliminary physical endurance test, the candidates were given 15 minutes to write the National Anthem as part of the written evaluation. However, the recruitment committee found that every candidate made significant spelling errors or was unable to complete the anthem within the allotted time.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Recruitment Committee Chairman, Afroz Shahin Khosru, emphasized that a basic understanding of national symbols and elementary literacy is essential for any government service role. Since no candidate met the minimum standard, the committee decided to cancel the current process and will issue a fresh recruitment circular shortly. While local residents have lauded the committee's transparency and strict adherence to standards, the incident has sparked widespread concern regarding the quality of education among the applicants.
