Auto-Rickshaw Driver Murdered in Chattogram Over 200 BDT Dispute
The altercation took place around 8:00 PM in front of Rahim Contractor’s tin-shed colony. Sakib, a resident of Noakhali’s Begumganj Upazila, was rushed to Agrabad Mother and Child Hospital in critical condition, where duty doctors unfortunately declared him dead.
The conflict reportedly began when Sakib sought the assistance of a fellow driver, Mohammad Abdul Hasan Rifat, to withdraw money from his bKash account. In exchange for the help, Sakib had allegedly promised Rifat 200 BDT, but a heated argument broke out when Sakib refused to pay the agreed amount after the transaction. The dispute quickly escalated from verbal abuse into a physical struggle, during which Rifat allegedly used a fruit-cutting knife to stab Sakib in the abdomen.
Following the incident, patrol police from Bandar Thana conducted a swift raid and successfully arrested the accused, Rifat. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim confirmed that legal proceedings are currently underway and the body has been sent for an autopsy. The local community has expressed shock over such a violent act occurring over a trivial sum of money, highlighting concerns regarding sudden flares of temper and security in the area.
