Hospital Director Extorted for Tk 20 Lakh in Bandar; Case Filed

Mitu Akter, Director of Madanpur Specialized Hospital, lodged the complaint at Bandar Police Station on Friday night (February 20), naming SM Momen, Shafiullah, and four others, along with five unidentified suspects. According to the plaintiff, the accused have been using political influence to extort locals and intimidate hospital staff since August 5.

The case statement alleges that on February 16 and 18, the accused entered the hospital armed with local weapons and demanded Tk 20 lakh. Upon refusal, they reportedly assaulted the building’s caretaker, Salauddin, and snatched Tk 1.5 lakh collected from rent. However, Harun Ur Rashid Liton, General Secretary of Bandar Upazila BNP, denied any party affiliation for the accused, stating they are not involved in BNP activities. Bandar Police OC Golam Moktar Ashraf Uddin confirmed that the investigation is underway and legal action will be taken based on evidence.
