Jailed Barrister Suman Contests SCBA Election from Prison
Running for the position of General Secretary under the Awami-backed panel, Suman’s supporters are actively campaigning as the election is scheduled for March 11 and 12.
Currently incarcerated in connection with multiple cases related to the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement, Suman is being portrayed by his supporters as a "fearless voice" against mob justice and oppression. They argue that his candidacy from behind bars is a struggle to uphold the dignity of the legal profession and ensure justice. Suman, who was elected as an independent MP in the 12th national polls, has been in custody since last October, making his participation a significant highlight of this year's bar election.
