Tk 8 Million Seized from Vehicle Linked to BNP Candidate Annie Chowdhury; Two Detained

Executive Magistrate and member of the Election Inquiry and Investigation Committee, Tahmina Akter Nowrin, confirmed the matter.

According to administrative sources, the cash was seized during a drive at Jhumur roundabout in Sadar upazila from a vehicle owned by Annie’s personal assistant, Badrul Alam Shyamal, who is also a relative of the candidate. The vehicle was reportedly being used for campaign purposes.

As an immediate and satisfactory explanation regarding the source and legality of the money could not be provided, the assistant was taken in for questioning.

The magistrate said a show-cause notice has been issued, seeking a written explanation within a short timeframe. Possible violations of the electoral code of conduct are being examined.

Authorities stated that further legal steps are underway. No immediate reaction was available from the BNP candidate at the time of reporting.
