Thakurgaon Jamaat Ameer detained at Saidpur Airport with large sum of cash

He was taken into custody around 11:00 am on Wednesday (February 11) shortly after arriving at the airport.

Airport sources said he landed at 10:55 am on a domestic flight operated by US-Bangla Airlines. An estimated Tk 4 million was reportedly found in his hand luggage during initial inspection.

Given the proximity to the national parliamentary election, authorities considered the matter suspicious and detained him for questioning.

Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam said law enforcement agencies acted on confidential information that Belal Uddin Pradhan was carrying a significant amount of money from Dhaka to Saidpur. Intelligence and security personnel were deployed at the airport, leading to his detention.

According to the SP, the detainee claimed the amount could exceed Tk 5 million. The cash has yet to be officially counted, and it will be counted in the presence of journalists.
