Strict Security by BGB in South-West: 183 Platoons Deployed with Drone Surveillance
During a press briefing held on Wednesday (February 4) at a temporary camp in Gopalganj, Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddique, Director of the Jashore Battalion (49 BGB), detailed the extensive deployment. He confirmed that BGB personnel have already taken their positions across 108 upazilas in 18 districts of the south-western region.
To maintain a stable electoral environment, 183 platoons of BGB have been deployed across 62 parliamentary constituencies. Operating from 93 temporary base camps, these members will serve as mobile and striking forces. Specifically, the Jashore Battalion has assigned 31 platoons to cover 11 constituencies within its jurisdiction, including 8 platoons dedicated to Gopalganj. Despite their primary duty of guarding the 4,427 km border, over 37,000 BGB members are currently performing election-related duties nationwide.
The BGB is incorporating advanced technology to create a foolproof security net, including digital drone surveillance and "Body Worn Cameras" for patrolling officers. Specialized K-9 dog squads have also been deployed to enhance monitoring. Furthermore, "Robust Patrols" are being conducted in coordination with the Army and Police. To tackle any immediate threats, the BGB’s Rapid Action Team (RAT) and a Quick Response Force (QRF) equipped with helicopters are on standby. The commander emphasized that the force is committed to maintaining a level playing field, ensuring that voters can exercise their franchise without fear.
