Bangladesh Shaken Twice in One Day: Strong 6.0 Magnitude Quake Hits at Night
The tremor, felt at approximately 9:40 PM, measured 6.0 on the Richter Scale, though global monitoring agencies like USGS and EMSC recorded it at 5.9. The epicenter was located near Akyab, Myanmar. Since the origin was less than 200 kilometers southeast of Cox’s Bazar, the intensity was felt strongly across the country, causing widespread panic among residents.
Earlier that day, a mild 4.1 magnitude earthquake had already jolted the southwestern region of the country. The morning quake's epicenter was in the Kalaroa area of Satkhira, about 175 kilometers from the capital, Dhaka. The occurrence of two earthquakes in a single day—a mild one at dawn and a major one at night—has raised concerns about regional seismic activity. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties.
