amaat Leader’s Controversial Remarks on DUCSU Spark Outrage; Apology Issued
During an election rally on Saturday night, Ahsan claimed that DUCSU was once a "den for drugs and a brothel," which Islami Chhatra Shibir has allegedly managed to transform. As the video of his speech circulated on social media, students and former DUCSU leaders expressed intense resentment.
The Literature and Cultural Secretary of DUCSU, Mossadek Ali Ibne Mohammad, vehemently rejected the statement, calling it a direct insult to the nation’s premier educational institution. He demanded an unconditional public apology from the Jamaat leader. Following the backlash, Shamim Ahsan expressed regret for his comments while clarifying his stance to the media. He explained that his remarks were intended to highlight the "misdeeds" of the now-banned Chhatra League and insisted that Chhatra Shibir’s victory in the DUCSU elections had cleared those past stigmas.
At the rally, Ahsan had urged supporters to remain united like a "lead-solid wall" to prevent election day disturbances, expressing confidence that Jamaat would replicate the university students' shift in the upcoming national polls. Despite his clarification that he did not intend to hurt students' sentiments, the derogatory language used has continued to draw fire from various quarters. Experts suggest that such sensitive rhetoric during an election cycle could lead to significant political repercussions for the party.
