The escapee, identified as Md. Kamruzzaman Zaman (45), is a local ward-level leader and an accused in a case involving attacks on student protesters during the July uprising. This high-profile case also includes former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other top leaders as defendants.

The Incident: According to witnesses, ASI Rezaul of Gacha Police Station detained Zaman and took him to a nearby tea stall for discussion instead of heading straight to the station. As a crowd gathered, the situation turned violent. The mob beat up a police informant and assaulted the ASI before forcibly taking the suspect away. Following the incident, additional police forces were deployed to the area to maintain order.

Allegations of Negligence: The incident has sparked controversy. Legal experts and locals have questioned the police's professional conduct, suggesting that holding a high-profile accused at a tea stall is highly suspicious. There are allegations that the "snatching" might have been staged following a secret financial negotiation.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gacha Police Station, Monir Hossain, stated that the ASI conducted the raid without prior authorization and failed to control the situation due to the sudden rush of factory workers in the evening.
