School Admission Lottery Abolished; Entrance Exams to Return Next Year
The announcement came during a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Monday afternoon.
The lottery system, which began for Grade 1 in 2011 and was extended to all grades in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is being replaced by the traditional examination-based admission process. This move marks a return to merit-based evaluation for students seeking admission into both government and private schools. Educationists believe this transition will once again prioritize academic assessment over chance.
