On Monday afternoon (January 19), the university authorities filed an application seeking a stay on the High Court’s decision, which had postponed the polls for four weeks. Advocate Mo. Saddam Hossain, representing the university, confirmed the filing and stated that a hearing is expected soon. The election was originally scheduled to take place tomorrow, January 20.

Earlier in the day, a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Asif Hassan issued the stay order following a writ petition. Senior lawyers including Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal and Barrister Rashna Imam represented the petitioners, while Advocate Mohammad Hossain Lipu appeared for the university and Additional Attorney General Aneek R. Haque represented the state. With only a day left before the scheduled voting, the university administration has initiated this legal move to clear the hurdles for holding the election on time.
