Trump Downplays Intense US-Iran Naval Clash in Strait of Hormuz

Late Thursday night, the strategic Strait of Hormuz turned into a battlefield as US and Iranian forces engaged in a direct military confrontation. US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that three of its destroyers—USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason—came under unprovoked attack from Iranian drones and missiles.

In response, the US launched "defensive strikes" on Iranian command centers and launch sites. Contrarily, Tehran accused Washington of violating the ceasefire by targeting Iranian oil tankers, claiming they inflicted "significant damage" on US naval assets in retaliation. While the situation remains volatile, President Trump told ABC News, "The ceasefire is holding; it’s working," seeking to de-escalate global fears of a renewed all-out war.
