West Bengal Assembly Dissolved: Mamata Banerjee Departs from CM Office
Exercising his powers under Article 174 (2) (B) of the Indian Constitution, the Governor issued a formal notification stating the dissolution of the assembly effective from May 7, 2026. This move follows the official expiration of the state government’s term on Wednesday, May 6.
Despite the transition, 71-year-old Mamata Banerjee had initially refused to step down, alleging massive electoral fraud and EVM tampering by the BJP in collusion with the Election Commission. She has labeled the election results as "unethical." Following the dissolution, according to former government officials, the Governor will oversee the state's affairs as the interim head until a new Chief Minister is sworn into office.
