The Israeli authorities have charged the individuals with "collaborating with the enemy during wartime" and supporting "terrorist organizations." However, speaking to the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE, Albares clarified that there is no factual link or proof to substantiate these claims made by the Israeli government.

The activists, Spanish-Palestinian Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian Thiago Avila, were intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters near the Greek island of Crete. Albares condemned the arrests as "completely illegal," emphasizing that an attack on a vessel in international waters is an unacceptable act for any nation claiming to be a democracy. Currently, Spain and Brazil are coordinating a joint response to the situation. While the minister refrained from detailing specific countermeasures to protect the safety of the detainees, he reassured that neither nation would "abandon" its citizens in such a crisis.
