Defying Expulsion and Controversy, Humayun Kabir Wins Dual Seats in Murshidabad
After being expelled from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Kabir contested from his newly formed 'Am Janata Unnayan Party' (AJUP) and secured dramatic victories in both Naoda and Rejinagar constituencies. By defeating TMC's Sahina Mumtaz and Ataur Rahman, he has cemented his position as an invincible force in the district’s complex political landscape, with supporters hailing him as the 'Nawab of Murshidabad.'
Kabir’s journey to this victory was marred by intense controversies, including his previous pledge to build a 'Babri Masjid' in his area, which led to his ouster from the TMC. Despite facing a 'sting video' scandal alleging secret deals with the BJP and a split with Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM just before the polls, Kabir managed to consolidate his vote bank. While his party fielded candidates in nearly 150 seats, Kabir remains the sole victor from his front. His triumph underscores a significant shift in regional dynamics and the growing influence of identity-based polarization in the state's politics.
