On Saturday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a legal order prohibiting the enforcement of these US-led restrictions within Chinese jurisdiction. The sanctions, initially announced by the US Treasury Department, aimed to isolate these refineries from the global financial system and threatened penalties for any international entities conducting business with them.

In a strongly worded statement, Beijing condemned the move as a direct violation of international law and fundamental norms of global relations. The Ministry emphasized that China does not recognize unilateral sanctions imposed without United Nations approval. This counter-measure effectively shields major firms like Hengli Petrochemical and four independent "teapot" refineries from US pressure. By taking this stance, China has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its national sovereignty and economic interests against external interference.
