Jordan’s state news agency, Petra, reported that the "precision" strikes were launched based on specific intelligence aimed at warehouses and facilities utilized by smuggling networks operating across the border. This military action highlights Amman's intensifying efforts to secure its frontier against illicit trafficking.

According to Syria's Al-Ikhbariya TV, Jordanian fighter jets struck a specific site in the village of Shahba, located in the Suwayda province. It is believed that the targeted facility served as a primary transit point for illegal weapons and narcotics entering Jordan. Following the strikes, increased drone activity and the movement of ambulances were observed in the affected area. The Jordanian military emphasized that it was compelled to take this stern measures due to a recent surge in smuggling attempts that threaten the country’s internal security and stability.

The timing of this operation is particularly significant within the regional political landscape. Following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024 after 24 years in power, Syria has been under the leadership of an interim government headed by President Ahmad al-Shara since January 2025. While the new administration is striving to end Syria's international isolation and rebuild the nation, Jordan’s latest military intervention underscores the persistent and grave concerns neighboring countries harbor regarding border security during this transition period.
