Tragedy in Delhi: 9 Family Members Killed in Devastating Fire Caused by AC Explosion
The incident occurred around 4:00 AM on Sunday, May 3, 2026, originating on the second floor of the building. The victims include an 18-month-old child, while two others are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital for severe burn injuries and related trauma.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara Division), Rajendra Prasad Meena, stated that the flames rapidly spread from the second floor to the third and fourth levels. Upon receiving the emergency call, 14 units from the Delhi Fire Service rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control by 6:00 AM after a grueling two-hour operation. During the search, rescuers recovered the bodies of Arvind Jain (60), his wife Anita (58), their son Nishant (35), daughter-in-law Anchal (33), and their infant son Akash from the second floor. Additionally, the bodies of Nitin Jain (50), his wife Shaili (48), and their son Samyak (25) were found on the third floor, while a woman named Shikha Jain (40) was found deceased on the first floor.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was followed by a massive fireball that engulfed the building almost instantly, leaving the residents with virtually no time to escape. Despite the intensity of the fire, rescue workers successfully evacuated 12 to 15 other individuals from the premises. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the incident as "extremely tragic" and expressed her deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Local administrative authorities have announced emergency assistance and support measures for the survivors and affected relatives.
