Oil Prices Could Breach $140 Amid US Naval Blockade, Warns Iranian Speaker
The senior Iranian official shared this assessment on Thursday, April 30, 2026, as reported by the Indian news outlet NDTV. Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ghalibaf also mocked recent military threats made by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran's energy infrastructure.
On April 26, President Trump had asserted that Iranian oil wells would begin to be destroyed within a three-day window. Following the expiration of that timeframe, Ghalibaf ridiculed the statement, noting that not a single well had been affected. "Three days have passed, and not one well has exploded," Ghalibaf wrote, sarcastically offering to extend the deadline by another 30 days and provide a livestream of the sites. The former military commander dismissed the advice given to Trump by his top officials as "nonsense," specifically targeting US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, whose economic theories he blamed for the current volatility in the global energy market.
Currently, US forces are enforcing a maritime commercial blockade on Iran under President Trump's orders. Washington’s stated objective is to halt Iranian oil production and inflict enough infrastructural damage to compel Tehran into a permanent peace agreement. However, this escalation has significantly tightened global fuel supplies, causing Brent crude to jump by 6% to reach $118 per barrel—the highest level recorded since June 2022. According to Ghalibaf, the fundamental issue lies not within the theories of US officials, but rather in what he described as their "destructive mindset," which continues to destabilize the global economy.
