The 142-meter vessel, named ‘Nord,’ is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and reportedly reached the Al Mouj Marina in Muscat, Oman, over the weekend after departing from Dubai. The yacht is currently registered under the flag of the Caribbean nation Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The successful transit of the ‘Nord’ comes at a time of extreme geopolitical friction in the region. Iran has imposed stringent restrictions on navigation within the Persian Gulf, while U.S. President Donald Trump has maintained a firm naval blockade on Iranian ports. The safe passage of the vessel from the Persian Gulf into the Sea of Oman amidst this military standoff has sparked widespread curiosity and international debate regarding the strategic coordination allowing such movements.

Alexey Mordashov, the chairman of Russia’s leading steel company Severstal and a close ally of President Vladimir Putin, remains under heavy Western sanctions following the conflict in Ukraine. Despite these measures, his multi-million dollar yacht—featuring swimming pools, a submarine, and dual helipads—has consistently evaded seizure. While it remains unconfirmed whether Mordashov himself was aboard during this transit, the incident underscores that despite severe blockades, influential Russian assets continue to maintain access through this critical and highly contested waterway.
