Massive Protests Erupt Across Israel Demanding Netanyahu’s Resignation
Protesters in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa are calling for the immediate formation of an independent state commission to investigate the failures surrounding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. Demonstrators expressed deep frustration, accusing the current administration of failing to secure the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip and failing to ensure national security.
Habima Square in Tel Aviv served as the epicenter of the mass mobilization. Under heavy police presence, thousands gathered to chant slogans such as "Resign Now" and "Establish an Inquiry Commission." In Jerusalem, hundreds of protesters demonstrated in front of the Prime Minister’s residence, while approximately one thousand people gathered at the Horev Center in Haifa to criticize the government's conduct. To date, Netanyahu has consistently refused to establish a formal state commission of inquiry into the October 7 events, a stance that has fueled widespread public outrage.
This domestic unrest, combined with mounting international pressure, presents a significant challenge to the Netanyahu administration. In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, over allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Protesters believe the Prime Minister is obstructing the investigative process to protect his legal standing and political career. Amidst the turmoil, opposition parties are intensifying their demands for early elections.
