In an emergency press briefing held at the White House following the incident at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday night, the President emphasized that such attacks would not deter him from his military objectives. "Nothing will stop me from winning the war against Iran," Trump stated, adding that according to current information, he does not believe there is a direct link between the shooting and the ongoing war.

During his conversation with reporters, Trump expressed some uncertainty regarding whether a specific group was behind the attack, noting it was "too early to tell." However, he described the assailant as a "lone wolf." While investigators are currently probing the attacker's true motives and potential foreign influence, Trump has already taken a significant diplomatic step. He announced the cancellation of a scheduled U.S. delegation visit to Pakistan, explaining that he was dissatisfied with Tehran’s recent negotiation proposals.

The conflict traces back to February 28, 2026, when a joint U.S.-Israel military operation was launched on Iranian territory. After 39 days of intense combat, both parties agreed to a two-week temporary ceasefire on April 8, mediated by Pakistan. Although President Trump later unilaterally extended the ceasefire indefinitely, the current diplomatic deadlock has reignited tensions. Trump claimed that Tehran’s current position and terms are not conducive to a positive dialogue, creating new hurdles on the path to a lasting peace.
