Iran Neutralizes ‘Bunker Buster’ Bomb Found 43 Feet Underground
According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the high-risk operation was conducted approximately 13 meters underground without any casualties or accidental detonations. The successful recovery and disposal of the unexploded ordnance are being hailed as a major security achievement for the region.
According to reports, the high-capacity bomb was dropped during recent strikes conducted by U.S. and Israeli forces. Although it struck its intended target area, the bomb failed to detonate due to a technical malfunction, instead penetrating the soft soil of a residential neighborhood to a depth of 43 feet. Members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and local bomb disposal units carried out a joint operation to ensure the safety of residents. After an extensive and delicate effort, the specialized team managed to remove the threat safely.
Experts noted that bunker buster bombs are specifically designed to penetrate soil or reinforced concrete to destroy underground tunnels and fortified military installations. The presence of such a powerful explosive in a densely populated area had triggered widespread panic among local inhabitants. Middle East Eye reported that a massive disaster was averted by the timely detection and neutralization of the device. The IRGC confirmed that the bomb has been moved to a secure facility for further technical examination.
