Mojtaba Khamenei Faces Critical Injuries and Reconstructive Surgery
According to recent reports from The New York Times, Mojtaba is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment at a high-security, undisclosed location while the country’s power structure undergoes a massive shift.
Medical sources indicate that Mojtaba’s injuries are life-altering. He reportedly suffered severe burns to his face and lips, making natural speech nearly impossible and necessitating extensive plastic surgery. Furthermore, one of his legs was decimated in the blast; after three separate surgeries, medical teams are now preparing for the fitting of a prosthetic limb. President Masoud Pezeshkian, a trained surgeon, is personally supervising the medical team to ensure the leader's recovery.
In his absence, the traditional clerical rule has been replaced by a "military state" governed by senior generals of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Political analyst Abdolreza Davari describes Mojtaba as a "Chairman of the Board" who exists largely in name, communicating only through handwritten notes, while the IRGC handles war strategy and geopolitics. This transition has marginalized civilian diplomats like Abbas Araghchi, as hardliners like Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf take the lead in foreign dealings, effectively placing Iran under an unwritten state of military rule.
