The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed the incident, stating that a craft associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached the ship approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman before launching the attack. This escalation has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the region, particularly as diplomatic efforts to stabilize the Middle East face mounting challenges.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that the vessel had received multiple warnings in international waters prior to the incident. Iranian authorities claimed that because the warnings were ignored, the military was forced to apply "maritime law" against the ship. The strike comes at a highly sensitive time, as any disruption to this vital trade corridor threatens global supply chains. Military analysts observe that such maneuvers are often used as leverage in broader geopolitical standoffs, frequently involving the strategic interests of NATO-member states and their regional partners.

In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a proposal to extend the current ceasefire with Iran to prevent further escalation. However, Tehran has swiftly and flatly rejected the offer. An advisor to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf described the decision to extend the ceasefire as "completely meaningless," asserting that Washington is in no position to impose conditions on Iran. With U.S. missile stockpiles reportedly running low and Iran maintaining a defiant stance, experts warn that the region is drifting toward a prolonged and unpredictable crisis.
