Speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on Saturday, April 18, 2026, Fidan asserted that the Netanyahu government is prioritizing territorial expansion over genuine safety. "Israel does not actually want its own security; it wants more land. The government is using security as a tool to occupy new regions," Fidan remarked during his address.

This sharp critique from Turkey’s top diplomat comes at a time of escalating tensions across the Middle East. Despite the recent ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, the rhetoric from the Israeli leadership remains uncompromising. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has taken a firm stance, stating that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will maintain control over the areas they have "cleared and occupied" in Southern Lebanon.

Defense Minister Katz further warned that Israel's military operations in Lebanon are far from over. He declared that the armed group Hezbollah would be disarmed "by any means necessary." These statements suggest that the maritime and land borders of Lebanon may remain under Israeli military oversight for the foreseeable future, despite international calls for a full withdrawal to the Blue Line.

Political analysts suggest that public criticism from a key NATO member state like Turkey, coupled with Israel's steadfast military positioning, is narrowing the path toward a sustainable peace in the region. As Israel reinforces its presence in newly occupied zones, the diplomatic rift between Ankara and Jerusalem continues to widen, potentially complicating broader security cooperation within the Mediterranean and Middle East theaters.
