Recent reports indicate that Iran has countered Washington’s 20-year enrichment suspension proposal with a 5-year limit—a move experts describe as a potential strategic victory for Tehran.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Professor Mohammad Elmasry of the Doha Institute noted that a five-year window would essentially allow Iran to regroup in a very short period. Elmasry highlighted that while the US historically lacked an anti-enrichment policy, it now appears to be adopting Israel’s hardline stance. With the US midterm elections approaching, the analyst suggests that President Trump is under immense pressure to frame any potential agreement as a definitive "victory" for American voters, potentially complicating the path to a sustainable deal.
