According to the monthly oil market report released by OPEC on Monday, production among member nations dropped by a staggering 27%, decreasing by approximately 7.9 million barrels per day. The escalation of conflict between Iran and US-Israeli forces has rendered this vital maritime corridor—responsible for one-fifth of the world’s oil and LNG transit—virtually impassable, forcing major exporters to halt operations.

The OPEC report highlighted that the disruption in the Strait has thrown regional production into disarray. Leading producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and the UAE, faced the sharpest cuts in output as shipping routes became inaccessible. Even Iran, despite its strategic control over the passage, saw its production significantly affected by the ongoing hostilities. As the world watches the standoff in the Gulf, experts warn that this prolonged production slump could trigger a global energy crisis and drive fuel prices to record highs.
