UK and France to Host Joint Summit on Hormuz Strait Security Amid Diplomatic Breakthroughs
According to a Reuters report on Monday, April 13, the two nations aim to establish a multinational defensive mission to restore freedom of navigation. French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the mission would be strictly defensive and independent of warring factions, while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer underscored the necessity of this route to stabilize the global cost of living, which has been impacted by recent disruptions.
Concurrently, China has called for restraint, urging all involved parties to prioritize diplomatic and political solutions over military escalation. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed support for the preliminary peace talks initiated in Islamabad, stating China’s readiness to play a constructive role in de-escalating regional tensions. Adding a new dimension to the crisis, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed that Iran and the United States are closer than ever to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Reports indicate that following intensive discussions in Islamabad, both nations are on the verge of a historic breakthrough to end decades of diplomatic friction.
