In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the US Navy would immediately begin the process of blocking any and all vessels attempting to enter or exit the strait. He emphasized that this measure is intended to stop Iran from benefiting from what he described as "illegal extortion."

This announcement has dashed hopes for a swift end to the conflict after the recent diplomatic failure in Islamabad. Given that nearly one-fifth of the world’s total oil supply passes through this strategic waterway, the blockade is expected to significantly heighten global economic instability. Trump asserted that while the world suffers from Iran's control over the strait, the US will no longer tolerate such "policing" by Tehran. He invited other nations to join the blockade to ensure that global trade is no longer held hostage by Iranian threats.
