Tragic Road Accident in New York Kills Three Bangladeshis, Including Father and Son
The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM local time on Monday, April 6, 2026, on Route 9H near Van Wyck Lane. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, a representative of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in New York, confirmed the fatalities on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Md. Hiramon, his 30-year-old son Nazmul Robel, and Robel’s close friend, 27-year-old Fahim Alim. All three victims were residents of Loudonville, New York, and originally hailed from the Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla, Bangladesh.
The collision has also left two other family members fighting for their lives. Hiramon’s eldest daughter, 33-year-old Ratna, and her one-year-old daughter, Ikra, sustained critical injuries during the impact. Emergency medical teams transported both survivors to Albany Medical Center, where they remain under intensive care. Local authorities reported that Nazmul Robel was operating the vehicle at the time of the incident when it suddenly lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a high-speed head-on collision with another vehicle. The force of the impact caused the immediate deaths of the three men at the scene.
The Bangladeshi community in New York has been plunged into a state of profound mourning as news of the tragedy spread through the diaspora. On Wednesday, April 8, a massive funeral prayer (Janaza) was scheduled to be held at the Baitul Aman Islamic Center in the Bronx. Following the religious services, the bodies are to be transported to the Marlboro Muslim Cemetery in New Jersey for burial. Community leaders have expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and are coordinating support for the survivors currently hospitalized.
Traffic safety investigators are still examining the environmental and mechanical factors that may have contributed to the vehicle losing control on Route 9H. While the investigation remains ongoing, local police have urged drivers to remain vigilant on the stretch of road where the accident took place. This tragic event marks one of the most significant losses of life within the Bangladeshi-American community in recent years, highlighting the vulnerability of expatriate families during long-distance travel. Friends and relatives from both New York and Cumilla have flooded social media with tributes, remembering the victims as hardworking individuals dedicated to their families.
