Speaking at the G7 ministerial meeting in France this Friday (March 27, 2026), German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul alleged that President Vladimir Putin is exploiting regional tensions to divert global attention from Russian atrocities in Ukraine. Citing reports from Al-Jazeera, Wadephul stated, "Russia is clearly assisting Iran with information about potential targets.

" During discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the German Minister emphasized that the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East are "closely intertwined" in Russia’s strategic calculus. He further expressed Germany's willingness to play a logistical role in securing the Strait of Hormuz once the current escalation subsides. These remarks underscore growing Western concerns over a consolidated Moscow-Tehran military axis amidst rising global instability.
