He made these remarks while delivering the keynote address at the TV9 Network Summit (themed "India & The World") in New Delhi on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that since February 28, 2026—the onset of the current West Asia crisis—India has demonstrated remarkable decision-making and crisis-management capabilities. He stated that while the world is fragmented into various camps, India has built "unimaginable bridges," emerging as a trusted partner for the Gulf, the Global West, and the Global South alike. "When asked whose side we are on, my answer is: we are with India's interests, peace, and dialogue," he remarked, emphasizing that India refuses to be a bystander to its own destiny.

During the same address, the Prime Minister launched a sharp critique of the previous UPA government, specifically regarding the issuance of oil bonds worth ₹1.48 lakh crore between 2004 and 2010. He alleged that these bonds were a "wrong decision" made by those running the government via "remote control" to preserve their power, ultimately saddling future generations with a debt of over ₹3 lakh crore including interest. He claimed his government has spent the last several years "washing away these sins" of the past while simultaneously shielding citizens from the impact of faltering global supply chains in energy and fertilizers.
