Analysis from academic researchers, reviewed by Reuters, indicates that the March 9 blast in the Sitra region of Bahrain involved a missile from the US-operated Patriot air defense system.

While Bahraini authorities initially blamed Iranian drones for the carnage, a government spokesperson has now admitted for the first time that a Patriot missile was indeed involved. They claim it successfully intercepted an Iranian drone over a residential area, though no concrete evidence of such a drone has been presented by Manama or Washington.

Residents of the Mahazza neighborhood, known for its oil refineries, faced collapsed homes and severe injuries, including children. Analysts are now questioning whether the casualties were the result of a technical malfunction or a failed interception, adding a new layer of complexity to the ongoing regional conflict.
