Assassination Attempt on Farooq Abdullah: Former J&K CM Escapes Point-Blank Gunfire

The incident occurred at a wedding ceremony in the Royal Park area of Greater Kailash, Jammu. Reports and social media footage reveal a terrifying scene where a man brandishing a pistol lunged toward Farooq Abdullah. A quick-thinking security commando managed to shove the attacker just as he fired, saving the senior leader's life. While Abdullah remained unharmed, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who was present at the scene, sustained injuries during the chaos and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The attacker, identified by police as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a local resident of Jammu, has been taken into custody. During interrogation, Jamwal claimed he had been plotting to kill Abdullah for the past 20 years, though his exact motive remains unclear. This security breach has raised serious concerns, as Omar Abdullah questioned how an armed individual could bypass Z-plus and NSG security cordons.
