Tension Escalates in Hormuz Strait: India-Bound Cargo and Two Others Attacked
The bulk carrier 'Mayuree Naree', owned by Precious Shipping PCL, was en route from the UAE to India's Kandla port when it was struck near the Omani coast. While the Royal Thai Navy confirmed that 20 crew members have been rescued, three remain missing. Although a fire broke out on the vessel, it was successfully extinguished without causing environmental damage, according to UKMTO reports.
The wave of attacks also hit two other vessels: the Japanese-flagged container ship 'One Majesty' and the Marshall Islands-flagged 'Star Gwyneth'. Both sustained minor damages but reported no casualties among their crews. These incidents mark a significant escalation, bringing the total number of attacked vessels to at least 14 since the conflict between Iran and the US-Israel axis ignited on February 28. As security risks heighten, maritime traffic through this vital oil and gas transit route has drastically plummeted, raising global energy security concerns.
