Qatar Reopens Airspace on Limited Basis Amid Regional Conflict
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) made the announcement on Saturday, March 7, 2026, stating that air navigation has resumed through designated contingency routes with limited operational capacity. At this stage, only rescue, passenger evacuation, and emergency cargo flights are permitted to operate.
Authorities at Hamad International Airport emphasized that the resumption of standard commercial passenger flights remains dependent on the evolving security situation. The Qatari government confirmed that earlier this week, its military successfully thwarted an Iranian attempt to attack the airport using missiles. Additionally, the Ministry of Defense reported that on Friday, March 6, Qatari air defenses intercepted nine out of ten drones launched from Iran. While one drone landed in an uninhabited area, no casualties or significant damages were reported. These updates have been corroborated by reports from Al Jazeera and the BBC.
