The vessel has requested emergency docking at a Sri Lankan port, but local authorities have yet to grant permission as they closely monitor the escalating tension. The fleet was reportedly returning from an international maritime exercise in India when the incident occurred.

Simultaneously, maritime security has worsened following a drone strike on a Kuwaiti oil tanker. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that a tanker caught fire and eventually sank off the coast of Kuwait after being hit by a drone launched from Iran. While the crew members were rescued safely, the sinking has caused a massive oil spill, sparking fears of an environmental catastrophe. Sri Lankan officials stated they are aware of the developments and are prioritizing regional stability and the prevention of further loss of life.
