Israeli Airstrike Hits Hotel in Hazmieh Amid Escalating Conflict
This attack, which occurred without prior warning, has caused significant alarm as Hazmieh is a predominantly Christian area that has largely been spared from violence in previous rounds of conflict. According to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene, though the exact number of casualties within the hotel remains unconfirmed.
The strike on Hazmieh is part of a broader "broad wave of strikes" announced by the Israeli military in response to continued missile and drone launches by Hezbollah. Beyond the capital, Lebanese health officials reported that separate strikes on residential buildings in Aramoun and Saadiyat—towns south of Beirut also located outside Hezbollah’s traditional strongholds—killed at least six people and wounded eight others. Meanwhile, in the eastern city of Baalbek, an Israeli airstrike targeted a four-story residential complex, resulting in at least five deaths and leaving several others missing under the rubble.
As the conflict enters its fifth day, the humanitarian toll in Lebanon continues to mount. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli strikes since Monday have killed at least 50 people and injured more than 335 others. In addition to the aerial campaign, the Israeli military has issued urgent evacuation warnings for more than 80 towns and villages in southern Lebanon, signaling a potential for further escalation. The international community, including ASEAN and various regional powers, has expressed grave concern over the rapid expansion of the war, which now encompasses large-scale operations across Lebanon, Iran, and the wider Gulf region.
