A three-day meeting scheduled for Monday (February 23) was deferred as India seeks to analyze the legal and economic implications of the verdict. Despite the court’s decision, President Trump has already retaliated by announcing a fresh 15% tariff on nearly all global imports, labeling the ruling "outrageous."

The Indian Commerce Ministry stated that future negotiations would only proceed after a thorough review of the new US tariff landscape. The talks were aimed at finalizing an interim trade deal to reduce the 25% punitive tariff on Indian goods, imposed due to India's energy deals with Russia. Under the proposed agreement, India was to commit to purchasing $500 billion worth of US goods over five years in exchange for lower tariffs. Meanwhile, India’s opposition Congress party has called for a complete renegotiation of the deal in light of the changing legal circumstances in the US.
