Trump Imposes 10% Global Tariff on All Nations via Executive Order
This latest move was enacted under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, a provision that allows for such measures for a 150-day period. Simultaneously, the President has directed his administration to explore other legal avenues to reinstate the previous tariff regime.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump described the move as a positive development for the national economy. He asserted that the United States possesses "many great alternatives" to grow stronger and generate revenue. Previously, in April 2025, Trump had imposed baseline and reciprocal tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which triggered significant trade tensions with nations including China, India, and Canada. Over the past year, those duties generated approximately $133.5 billion in additional revenue for the U.S. Treasury. Despite the Supreme Court's intervention, this new executive order has sparked fresh fears of global trade instability.
