Moon Sighted in Saudi Arabia; Ramadan to Begin Wednesday
According to the Saudi-based religious website Haramain, the appearance of the crescent signals the start of the holy month from Tuesday night. Prayers were also offered, seeking acceptance of fasting and worship during Ramadan.
In addition to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar have also confirmed moon sightings, meaning Ramadan will begin there on Wednesday as well.
However, Oman has not sighted the moon, and fasting will begin there on Thursday. The same applies to Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.
Similarly, Central Asian countries including Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan will begin fasting on Thursday after no moon sighting was reported.
